PERFORMANCE PROGRAM

Performance always provides a significant injection of energy,
theatre & colour into the Ironfest entertainment program.

Expect a program of professional exotic dance, traditional dance, avante-guard street performance, circus acts, magic shows, and lots more.

Belly Dance


Presenting: Ceane Towers (Welcome to Country)...

Wiradjuri aboriginal younger, and current GLATSIC President, Ceane Towers will conduct the 'Welcome to Country' ceremony at 10.30am on Saturday 24th.

This ancient ceremony has been conducted through time immemorial by indigenous peoples across the continent to welcome visitors to their land.

Welcome to Country Ceremony

 

The Welcome to Country Ceremony will start with Ceane Towers and Aunty Gloria Rodgers doing Welcome to Country speech in ‘Wiradjuri’ language – together. 


Bob Sutor and Troy Blow plays the didgeridoo, Bernard claps the sticks, while Ceane does a ‘Wiradjuri’ traditional clearing to clear the air for the start of the Iron Festival around a real contained fire.

An Aboriginal dance group who are sitting in a circle stand up and prepare for the clearing dance ‘Darug’ – music by Jacinta Tobin (live), holding their gum leaves. 


The dancers will then perform the Blue Mountains bush fire dance, Jacinta Tobin singing live Daruk language. The dancers perform the gathering and blessing of food demonstration. Dancers perform their animal depictions. The emus, bird, owl, snake, kangaroo, lizard, tree, wash demonstration. (Both CD music and Didgeridoo played by Troy Blow and Bob Sutor).

 

Ironfest Festival Director, Macgregor Ross, to speak & pay respect to the opening of the festival. 


The Middle Ground Belly Dancers then perform and demonstrate the sharing & teaching of different cultures.

Jacinta Tobin, a ‘Darug’ woman, then ends the ceremony by singing her beautiful songs.
