Medieval Village

Into its' 2nd year the 'new' Ironfest Medieval Village will once again be located adjacent to the Tourney Ground, and will be a focus of high energy medieval mayhem & pageantry.
Groups attending in 2011 included our hosts, the Iron Guard, as well as regulars, Danelaw, Europa & the Black Grail.

THE IRON GUARD
Newly formed in Lithgow The Iron Guard are the official Kingdom Of Ironfest foot soldiers
and the Ironfest Medieval Village hosts.
DANELAW
Danelaw’s name is derived from an ancient law that once controlled the north-eastern parts of England. It was declared, by Alfred the King of England, to appease the plundering Vikings and provided them with a territory of England which was under their control. Hence the area soon became known as "The Danelaw". This law was put in place in 878 A.D. and lasted for some sixty years. The English Saxon's were fed up with the fierce Viking raids so that this was the only viable solution left to make peace with the invaders. The capital of this Viking territory was York. Some parts of this realm are still referred to as The Danelaw today.
EUROPA
Europa are a re-enactment group based in the Blue Mountains.
The club's reenactment allows any period from the 10th century and as late as the 14th century, but centers its focus on the English town of York during the Viking Danelaw period. They fight with swords, axes, spears and just about any other non-projectile (legal) arm from the period. Europa holds weekly training so that their combatants maintain a good level of safety. Safety is paramount in our fighting - meaning that, like most other groups, we fight with blunt steel and pulled blows against restricted target areas. Gauntlets and helmets are mandatory, and body armour of some kind is recommended.
BLACK GRAIL

This Queensland cross historical comic duo leap from medieval to colonial times, specialising in public floggings and execution, from jousting on foot to convict escapes. Be warned: public interaction intended. (This could mean being put in the stocks and having your partner give you a good thrashing, just for (their) fun!)
